Kennels on the A127 near the A130 turn off, as a few there?

Ours was housed in Bersheda there with Alison Ingram. Wasn't overly keen on her, seemed like a dodgy fucker.

Walking them is great until they see something move. Both powerful and obviously silly quick, so hilarious if you're little weak mate has the lead when they bolt off like we had :o)

A mate of mine had two and when they retired they wrecked his house. Used to race them at Wimbledon

Not sure what the answer is but seems like the sport is in terminal decline (especially with all the tracks shutting down) ... which unfortunately only means one thing.... sad times...

Re: Owning a racing greyhound
Owned many over the years. My advice

Make sure you make plans for what happens when it finishes racing. Will you or one of the other owners take it home as a pet?

Don't expect to make any money out of it. You only receive money when it races and it may not do so every week. Can also be off with injuries/illness etc

If you live near the kennels that's a bonus as you can get over on a sunday and walk the dog

In general Ive loved every minute and its a great buzz when your dog wins a race.

You can pay anything from a few hundred quid to buy a low grade unraced pup to tens of thousands for a proven competition winner. Money paid is also not an absolute guarantee of the dogs ability either...

If its your first purchase Id advise buying through someone you know who is an existing owner or through the kennel.

The one I'm looking at is a bloke with kennels in Essex, runs at Romford.
Not expecting to get rich out of it, just thought it'd be a chortle.

Re: Owning a racing greyhound
Same as grumpster costwise but mine ran out of Wimbledon

Rolled our winnings over annually which paid for cheap flights for a boys weekend normally. If you go to the dogs regularly it can be worth it as you got free entry and a spot in the owners enclosure overlooking the finish line. Bought our dogs through Seamus Cahill who was one of the trainers at Wimbledon

Re: Owning a racing greyhound
Used to own a greyhound that ran at Romford in a consortium and he cost us 3k to buy between 6 of us and around £50 each per month for the kennel's etc.

You buy them as a hobby and for a good night out to always go and watch them run, as with the prize money available, it's rare you'll ever make money out of them unless they win a big prize, you win money betting on them or they turn out mustard and you sell them on when the offers come in.

Get a retired one, it will tell you all you need to know.
